R1003.5

Section R1003.5 is titled 'Corbeling' and covers the requirements for masonry chimney corbeling. The total amount of corbeling, dependent on the wall thickness, foundation thickness, and story in which the corbeling occurs of a two-story dwelling, as well as for the maximum projection of a single course, dependent on the masonry unit height and depth is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure of the chimney.
