R1003.19

Section R1003.19 is titled 'Chimney fireblocking' and covers requirements for masonry chimneys. The requirement for non-combustible fireblocking to be installed between chimneys and framing where chimneys pass through floors or ceilings, and for such fireblocking to inherently stay in place, or be installed on non-combustible materials which are fastened in place is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire.

The model shows a section of an interior chimney passing through a floor with metal strips fastened to the bottom of the joists which are supporting mineral wool fireblocking.
