Section R1003.17 is titled 'Masonry chimney cleanout openings' and covers requirements for masonry chimneys. The requirement for masonry chimneys to have a cleanout opening of a minimum size, in a certain location, with a non-combustible cover is established. The purpose of this section is to have a means for chimney cleaning.
