R1003.16

Section R1003.16 is titled 'Inlet' and covers requirements for masonry chimneys. The requirement for chimney inlets to enter from the side with a thimble, be made of certain specific materials, and which will prevent movement of the appliance connector is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent exhaust gases from entering the building.

The model shows a section of a clay flue, (which has been made translucent on the backside for easy viewing of the inlet connection inside of the flue), with a side inlet clay thimble with a bonded metal sleeve (to prevent movement of the sleeve).
