R1001.1

Section R1001.1 is titled 'General' and covers the requirements for masonry fireplaces. A cross-reference to this section and other chapters of this code which masonry fireplaces must be built in compliance with is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure and the building from catching fire, as well as minimizing smoke from entering the interior space.
